説明2	【日本語訳】親愛なる西田－　あなたからの嬉しい封入物、大黒舞の原文が無事に届きました。これを英訳してもらい、更に、ローマ字に写してもらいます－この後は、これまでまだ試みられていない実験をするかもしれません。すなわち、日本語の韻文を、それに相当する英語の旋律に翻訳するものです。でもどうするかは、まだ言えません。多分大変珍しい小さな本を作ることになるでしょう。そして多分資料は別の方法で使うでしょう。　しかし、この手紙は大急ぎで書きます。二、三分で学校へ行かなければならないからです。あなたに大いに感謝するために、そしてまた、親切にも大黒舞の原文などを書いてくださった人などに、お金を送るために手紙を書いているところです。住民にいくらかお金を与えたとおっしゃったのですから、こちらもいくらか費用を負担すべきだろうと思います。もしも同封の金額が十分でなければ、どうか教えていただきますよう。－ブッシュ-カン［仏手柑］の件もありがとうございました。わたしは、花についてひどい過ちをしていました、それを訂正するのには間に合います。　－郵便局の人たちがどうしてこれほど不注意なのか理解できません。よそからわたしに送られた手紙が、時にはおかしなことですが、あて先が間違って書かれて、わたしに届く前に、長らくあちこちを廻るのです。　－この上ない敬意と感謝をもって　つねに誠実にあなたの友である　　　ラフカディオ・ハーン［一八］九三年三月七日　九州、熊本日本語訳：常松正雄『ラフカディオ・ハーン西田千太郎往復書簡』（八雲会、2020年）より
翻刻	Dear Nishida:- Your welcome enclosure, with the Daikoku-mai text, reached me safely. I am going to have the text translated and also turned into Romaji, —after which I may try an experiment, not yet attempted,—namely, of rendering the Japanese verse into a corresponding English measure. However, I can't yet tell what I will do: perhaps I shall see my way to make a very curious little book, and perhaps I shall use the material in another fashion. But all this in haste,—as I must go to the school in a few minutes. I am writing to thank you very, very much; and also to send some money to the person kind enough to write the text, &c. As you told me that some money was given to the Yama-people, I suppose there will be some expenses to cover. If the enclosed amount is not enough, please let me know. —Thanks also about the Bushiu-kan matter. I made a bad mistake about the flower, but it is not too late to correct it. —I can't understand how those P. O. people can be so careless.
